Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! My name is Ms. Ioane. This is my fifth year teaching at Rossview, but I have also taught at Clarksville High School and in North Carolina. I grew up in the Clarksville area, and graduated from Rossview High School. I have a B.A. in English literature from the University of Memphis, and I have my M.A.T. in secondary education.
I chose to teach high school English because I love the opportunities literature provides us to communicate with one another. My goal is to help support this upcoming generation by teaching them how and when to communicate their thoughts and feelings appropriately and successfully.
The class centers on literature, informational text, and the analysis of both. We study, discuss, and write about texts from a variety of world societies and time periods. A syllabus will be distributed this week. All classroom policies are in the syllabus, including my grading policy. Please review these with your student and know that we will go over them in class this week as well. I grade with a total-points approach and this is explained in the syllabus. Please also note that when absent, if I have graded an assignment for the class and your student was absent, PowerSchool will have a zero for the grade until the work is made up. This is a place holder grader until the assignment is made up by the appropriate make-up deadline. Be aware, though, that makeup work often goes to the bottom of the grading pile, so it may take a few days to show up on PowerSchool once it is graded.
*Any Honors students may be required to purchase outside reading texts.
I welcome any communication this year. I can be reached at [email protected]. I am generally quicker to respond to an email over a phone message. You may also call the school to schedule a meeting with me during my planning (5th period) or after school any day except Thursday.
